5 Amazing Dussehra Commercials from Yesteryear That Will Make Your Day

Updated: Oct 5, 2022

Navratri- the nine days when the whole of India and Indians across the world are charged with spiritual fervor, and the period is marked with festivities, fasting, and spiritual enhancement. Navratri culminates into Vijayadasmi or Dussehra on the tenth day, which symbolizes the victory of good over evil. This day is celebrated as a gala event with food, music, and dance.

Naturally, brands leave no stone unturned to make the most of this event and win over new potential customers. And commercials form a major part of their marketing endeavors. So, here we are with 5 amazing Dussehra commercials from brands that spread the overall message of this festival i.e., love, devotion, laughter, and kindness.

1. McDonald’s India

McDonald’s has always been amazing with its ads and has a knack for placing its products seamlessly within any context. And this commercial is no different.

The commercial shows a man dressed as the demon king Ravana placing his order at McDonald’s food outlet. The commercial showcases McDonald’s unique McSaver Combos, which can be purchased for as low as Rs 59. Therefore, now you don’t have to worry about the budget even with ten heads. Now, that's some creativity, fellas!

2. Aashirvaad

Goddess Durga is worshipped all through Durga Puja and her ten hands are indicative of her multitasking abilities. Aashirvaad, through its amazing commercial, likened normal people to gods for their unique abilities to do multiple things at the same time.

The commercial sends across the beautiful message that one doesn’t have to have ten limbs or heads to become a superhuman, their deed is what distinguishes them from average people, and rightly so.

3. Mankind

Every festival’s purpose is to bring people together and make them feel empathetic towards each other. And this commercial from Mankind showcases exactly that.

The ad shows a young kid refusing to wear new clothes on Dussehra because his friend, whose father had been going through a financial crunch, couldn’t afford new clothes. And he didn’t stop at that either; he broke his piggy bank to help his friend. You can only sit back and smile at such innocence and kind-heartedness of young kids!

4. Bajaj

Festivals are an ideal time for Indians to purchase vehicles. And automobile company Bajaj decided to encash the 2015 festive season with this beautiful Dussehra commercial.

The commercial features a kid dressed up as one of those monkey warriors from Lord Rama’s army. Upon seeing him upset over not being able to watch the burning of Ravana’s effigy, his father takes him to a high spot from where he can see the effigy burning. The happiness that appears on the kid’s face then is in line with the spirit of this beautiful festival.

5. Thums Up

What’s worse than not being able to celebrate your festivals due to being out of your country? In my opinion, not having anyone to celebrate it with is possibly the worst. And this Thums Up ad fully encapsulates this feeling.

The commercial features an old guy (who is also the owner of a large bungalow) telling one of his staff that no Dussehra festivities would be happening this time at his bungalow as there is no one whom he can celebrate it with. The news soon spreads all over the town like jungle fire. And before he knew it, his bungalow is swarmed by other people from the town who decorate the entire place with Thums Up bottles and lit up the place on Dussehra.

Filling in the empty spaces in others' lives, isn’t that the purpose of every festival?

Wrapping Up

And that was a wrap of the best Dussehra festivals from yesteryear. Fasting, feasting, and celebrations- that’s what Dussehra is precisely about. But there’s a greater meaning to it too, which involves laughter, kindness, and empathy. And these 5 ads have plenty of those.

We’ll be back with more amazing videos for you. Till then, stay tuned!
