5 Best Indian Independence Day 2024 Ads That Touched Our Hearts

India recently celebrated its 78th Independence Day. Apart from being a historic occasion for flags and rejoicing, it was the perfect opportunity for brands to showcase their creativity and appeal to the masses. On the 15th of August, we witnessed a flurry of ad campaigns – some quite witty and innovative, others just a lackluster effort at tugging at prideful heartstrings and cashing in on the nation’s patriotic sentiments.

Either way, it was quite a day and we have decided to bring you a list of our favorites. If you are ready, here are the best ad campaigns celebrating India's Independence Day, 2024.

1. Asian Paints and St+art India Foundation: Dawn of Valor

The "Dawn of Valor' is a result of a decade-long collaboration between Asian Paints, a leading paint brand in India, and St+art India Foundation. This project is an indelible tribute in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh that honors the country's defense forces stationed amidst the unforgiving Himalayas.

Painted with Asian Paints' resilient paint by the artist Reshidev R K on the Army Helipad Wall, this mural celebrates the bravery of legendary figures like Subedar Joginder Singh, while also highlighting the vibrant culture of Tawang. A unique initiative indeed, this project reflects the resilience of the Indian Army and its deep connection with the local people.

2. Ambuja Cement: Tum Virat Ho

Ambuja Cement's #TumViratHo is a salute to resilient citizens of the country who are inspiring change in their own unique ways.

The commercial starts with a sequence of monochrome close-ups of young underprivileged kids, followed by a wide shot of their march with a female adult toward a giant tree. That's when we are introduced to Aiesha Jan, a female activist, who has educated over a thousand students across 30 Indian villages.

The other changemakers featured in the ad are Abdul Wohab and Sabitri Pal (providing healthcare across 30 inaccessible islands on their cost-free boat clinic), Harshad Dhage (cleaned over 2.5k tonnes of beach waste), and Prasiddhi Singh (planted over 100k trees across more than 100 locations).

3. Tata Tea Premium: Desh Ka Garv

On the nation's most importance day, Tata Tea Premium is commemorating India's post-independence journey with its #DeshKaGarv-Pradesh Ki Kala campaign. The ad spotlights pivotal events in Indian history like the Inauguration of Hirakud Dam, Punjab's Green Revolution, and the 1982 Asian Games, paying homage to the nation's triumphs over decades.

To celebrate these milestones, the tea brand has launched a limited-edition collection featuring regional art forms. In partnership with The Plated Project, the campaign showcases vibrant art styles like Odisha's Pattachitra and Madhya Pradesh's Gond, each piece telling a unique story of India's progress.

4. JSW Paints: Think Beautiful

Another paint brand on our list, JSW Paints decided to put their own twist on the 78th Independence Day.

It is not a mural or a commercial even, it is a short film. That's right - a well-shot flick following a bunch of young kids playing a game of color tag. It's like a paint-by-numbers version of the Indian national anthem, but with less singing and more screaming.  The film highlights the importance of each color in the tri-color Indian flag, saffron, white, and blue. It is an inspiring homage to what each color stands for - sacrifice, peace, and prosperity, in that order.

5. Ajio: Fashion Beyond Labels

This unconventional ad campaign is all about breaking the stereotypes - the labels that society forces onto people based on the fashion choices they make. The ad features five types of these labels in Indian society- Sankari (traditional), Eccentric, Too Bold, Bizarre, and Too Much Prideful.

Ajio's #FashionBeyondLables celebrates the freedom of style and those who dare to confront the stereotypes when it comes to fashion. The message of the campaign is simple - fashion and freedom go hand in hand, so don't hold yourself back from unapologetically expressing your true self. Well, as the commercial says, 'labels are for clothes, not people.'
