1. Astro: Lain Macamnya Raya

Media and entertainment company Astro launched a funny yet heartwarming Eid commercial that captures the unique ways Malaysians celebrate, underscoring the essence of love, connection, and remembrance.

The commercial follows Jumaah, a single mother as she leads her family through Syawal preparations. The ad begins on a comedic note with Jumaah getting into a face-off with a shopkeeper. The rest of the film captures her struggles with the arrival of her sons’ wives for Raya celebrations and finally accepting and welcoming them.

The ad’s major source of humor comes from Jumaah’s comedic touch, adding an engaging and lighthearted feel to the commercial. The ad perfectly blends humor and heartfelt moments to make it worthwhile for the audience.

2. Nolte Kitchens: Together We Belong

German kitchen manufacturer Nolte Kitchens has launched a funny spot that revolves around a clueless father and his young daughter.

The ad opens with the father diving into the kitchen to prepare an Iftar meal all by himself despite knowing nothing about the kitchen. Thankfully, his young daughter saves the day by helping him discover how easy it is to navigate your way around Nolte Kitchens. Honestly, it was how the little cutie helped her dad, which brought a grin to my face.

3. Watsons: Raya Terunggul

Health and beauty retailer Watsons launched a partly-hilarious-partly-profound campaign this Eid. The seven-minute spot tells the heartfelt story of Melati, who prepares for a new relationship as her mother contemplates a second marriage.

Melati’s efforts to ensure her mother makes the right choice lay the foundation for the rest of the advert while adding a dash of humor. The ad brings together characters from some of Malaysia’s most iconic films and television series, including Mami Jarum, Adnan Sempit, and Gerak Khas who guide Melati on a journey of discovery in the most hilarious ways possible!

4. Homes r Us: Ramadan Made At Home

Homes r Us, the Middle Eastern furniture and home décor brand, launched a lighthearted Ramadan advert that is inspired by the true essence of the season to pervade every corner of the house with togetherness and celebration.

The 1-minute spot opens with the narrator’s deep voice taking the viewers through a rather dramatic coverage of a usual day in a household during Ramadan. The touch of humor in the narrator’s voice adds to the overall fun quotient of the advert.

5. Takaful: Curiga

And here’s the funniest of the lot! Takaful Malaysia seems to have found a taste for dark comedy if this 5-minute spot is any indication.

The ad follows a skeptical wife who suspects her husband of having an affair with one of his colleagues. As the film progresses, her suspicions only grow until one day when her husband clears the air and quells all her doubts. However, a revelation in the final few seconds of the commercial left me chuckling for the next several minutes. Watch the ad to find out the twist.
