Hi folks, we are back with our weekly edition of China’s Digital Digest, wherein we bring you weekly updates on China’s digital space. The report takes a quick glance at China’s complex and rapidly evolving social media landscape by providing updates on the latest happenings across the social media industry. Here are the major highlights of the report.
1. China’s Moonshot Claims to Build Models With Fewer AI Chips Than US Rivals
Chinese artificial intelligence firm Moonshot AI continues to develop AI models with fewer high-end graphics processing units (GPUs) than what its US rivals use, according to the Beijing-based start-up’s executives.

In a three-hour-long “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, a Moonshot AI representative with the handle “ppwwyyxx” – the same moniker used by co-founder Wu Yuxin on X – said the company was “outnumbered” by rival US firms in terms of “high-end GPUs” used for AI model development. He also confirmed that Kimi K2 Thinking, a new reasoning variant of its open-source Kimi K2 model, was trained on Nvidia’s older H800 GPUs, which were banned for export to China in late 2023.
2. Tencent Posts 19% Jump in Third-Quarter Profit on AI Gains, Beating Estimates
Chinese tech firm Tencent Holdings, the country’s most valuable technology giant, beat analysts’ forecasts with a 15 percent rise in third-quarter revenue, as its artificial intelligence efforts continued to drive growth.

Revenue for the Shenzhen-based firm, which runs China’s most popular super app WeChat, reached 192.9 billion yuan (US$27.1 billion), up from 167.2 billion yuan in the same period last year. Net profit increased 19 percent to 63.1 billion yuan in the September quarter, which surpassed the 55.9 billion yuan estimate from a Bloomberg poll of analysts.
3. Italy Plans Tax on Low-Value Parcels, Targeting China’s Shein and Temu
Italy is working to adopt a tax on low-value postal packages from non-European countries, senior politicians said, as part of measures to protect its fashion industry from low-cost imports mostly from China. The move targets online platforms such as Shein and Temu.

Italy’s ruling parties plan to apply a levy to consignments worth less than €150 (US$175), in line with a proposal being discussed at European Union level, other politicians said. Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti called for the faster introduction of the wider EU tax, saying in a statement it should come into force in 2026 rather than 2028, as currently envisaged.
4. China Sellers Brace as EU Moves to Tighten Rules on Low-Value Parcels, as US Did
European finance ministers have agreed to accelerate the introduction of customs duties on low-value parcels entering the bloc, aiming to curb the influx of inexpensive Chinese e-commerce imports — a move likely to impact retailers such as Shein and Temu.

Meeting in Brussels, the ministers backed bringing these duties into effect as early as 2026, paving the way for negotiations with the European Parliament, whose approval remains necessary. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic recommended scrapping the current “de minimis” exemption for online purchases under €150 ($175) in the first quarter of 2026 — two years ahead of schedule — and replacing it with a “simplified temporary customs fee.”
5. NetEase's 'Justice' Mobile Game Tops Global Charts Upon Release
NetEase Games and ZhuRong Studio’s latest MMORPG, Sword of Justice, has taken the gaming world by storm since its global release on November 7, 2025.

The free-to-play eastern fantasy open-world game has rapidly climbed to the number one spot in the free app rankings across several Asian regions, including Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Japan, reflecting its massive early success. Blending traditional eastern aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, Sword of Justice introduces players to a “living open-world” experience powered by advanced AI-driven NPCs. These characters interact dynamically based on player actions, making every playthrough unique and deeply immersive.
