Hi folks, we are back with our weekly edition of China’s Digital Digest, wherein we bring you weekly updates on China’s digital space. The report takes a quick glance at China’s complex and rapidly evolving social media landscape by providing updates on the latest happenings across the social media industry. Here are the major highlights of the report.

1. ByteDance Launches Seed3D 2.0, a Next-Generation 3D Foundation Model

ByteDance has officially released Seed3D 2.0, its latest high-precision 3D generation foundation model. The technical report is now public, and the API has been made available via Volcano Engine.

According to ByteDance, Seed3D 2.0 achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance in two key areas—geometry generation and texture/material rendering—when benchmarked against existing 3D generation models. The model demonstrates significantly improved reconstruction of complex structures, while also delivering more realistic and stable Physically Based Rendering (PBR) materials.

2. Alibaba DAMO Academy Unveils AI Model for Non-Invasive Colorectal Cancer Screening

Alibaba DAMO Academy, in collaboration with Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital and other institutions, has introduced DAMO COCA, an AI model for colorectal cancer screening based on non-contrast CT scans. The approach enables screening without bowel preparation.

The model achieved a sensitivity of 86.6% and specificity of 99.8%, according to research published in Annals of Oncology. In comparative tests, it demonstrated improved detection performance in areas where lesions are commonly missed. The study analyzed over 27,000 CT scans and identified previously undetected cancer cases in real-world clinical data. The system uses a two-stage deep learning framework to better interpret complex intestinal structures.

3. Alipay Expands AI Pay to OpenClaw-Type Agents

Alipay, the payments platform operated by Ant Group, has launched a new service that enables OpenClaw-type AI agents to carry out purchases and complete payments based on user instructions, without requiring any coding or complex setup.

The new offering builds on Alipay AI Pay, an AI-native payment solution first introduced in 2025 that facilitates secure transactions through AI agents via voice command. The product passed 100m users in February 2026, becoming the first AI-native payment product globally to achieve this milestone, and processed over 120m transactions in the week of 5–11 February 2026. Once users have installed Alipay AI Pay from its official website into their AI agent, they can activate the payment function with a simple voice instruction and complete identity verification. From that point, the agent can manage purchases in three steps: the user states what they need, confirms the order and authorises the transaction through Alipay AI Pay. Orders can be adjusted or cancelled at any stage with a single command.

4. Tencent Launches Overseas Beta of QClaw AI Agent Platform

Tencent has announced the overseas beta launch of its AI agent product QClaw, marking its expansion into global markets. Developed by the Tencent PC Manager team and based on the open-source OpenClaw framework, the product follows the domestic release in March 2026.

Tencent stated that the overseas version includes more than 80 feature updates and was developed in approximately five days, with most of the code generated by AI. QClaw is positioned as a consumer-oriented tool that requires no installation or technical setup. The platform introduces an “Agent Playground” featuring various AI roles, such as fitness coaches and language tutors, and supports integration with major models including GPT and Claude.

5. Baidu Releases GenFlow 4.0, Upgrades Cloud Storage and Office Agents

Baidu has unveiled its general AI agent system GenFlow 4.0 at its AI Day event, alongside upgrades to its Office Agent capabilities within Baidu Netdisk.

GenFlow 4.0 is now available on both PC and mobile versions of Baidu Netdisk, allowing users to deploy and access agents for PPT, Excel, and Word tasks directly within the platform. Tasks can be initiated on mobile devices and executed on PCs, enabling cross-device workflows. Since its initial release in April 2025, GenFlow has evolved to version 4.0, with over 100 million monthly active users and 200 million monthly task executions. The latest upgrade focuses on intent recognition, task decomposition, multi-tool coordination, and output delivery.

6. CapCut Launches AI Assistant for Natural Language Video Editing

CapCut has introduced a new AI Assistant that allows users to complete video editing tasks using voice or text commands. Built on a natural language interface (LUI), the feature enables users to input instructions such as “create a vlog” or “change background music,” with the system automatically handling editing, transitions, and audio processing.

In practice, the AI Assistant can automatically organize footage, match pacing, and perform batch edits. It also supports subtitle generation and basic script writing, while allowing users to further refine the output. Compared with traditional non-linear editing workflows, this approach reduces manual operations. The feature is currently designed for everyday content creation scenarios, including footage organization and simple editing.

7. Ikea Opens First Small-Format Beijing Store

IKEA has opened its first small-format store in eastern Beijing, bringing the concept to millions more people in the Chinese capital.

The 1,500 m² store, offering more than 3,000 home furnishing products, welcomed thousands of visitors on its inauguration day at the recently opened Wangfujing WellTown shopping centre in Beijing’s Tongzhou District. The new store, the company’s fifth in the Chinese capital, is tailored to the retailer’s findings about how people live in Beijing and what type of solutions could elevate their life at home further. Visitors can also access one-on-one planning support from home furnishing experts, alongside a curated food offering.

8. Lemaire Under Fire in China for Culturally Charged Braid Imagery

French fashion label Lemaire has been accused of cultural insensitivity in China after what is undeniably a questionable design decision for the market. As part of its Objets Senteur collection, the brand released what looks like a long braid of hair.

Lemaire says this is a tresse, a sort of French fragrance fixture. Chinese consumers said it looked too much like a queue, a humiliating hairstyle enforced during the Qing Dynasty. It didn’t help that the tresse was paired with traditional Chinese clothing and a pair of scissors – the tool used to cut the queue as a sign of emancipation at the dynasty’s collapse. China’s online hordes didn’t hold back. Lemaire issued an apology in two languages. But that wasn’t enough to placate Chinese netizens. Many described the apology as lacking sincerity, arguing that framing the issue as a difference in cultural interpretation risked deflecting responsibility.
