Hi folks, we are back with our weekly edition of China’s Digital Digest, wherein we bring you weekly updates on China’s digital space. The report takes a quick glance at China’s complex and rapidly evolving social media landscape by providing updates on the latest happenings across the social media industry. Here are the major highlights of the report.

1. ByteDance Releases Seedance 2.5

ByteDance Seed team has released Seedance 2.5, the next-generation video creation model. Building on Seedance 2.0 unified multi-modal audio-video joint generation architecture, the new version focuses on long-narrative capability, multi-modal reference, and editing ability.

Single-generation duration doubles from 15 seconds to 30 seconds with multi-round extension support, enabling production of several minutes of coherent content with unified audio-visual language. The model optimizes shot transitions and scene changes for long-video coherence while improving image quality, audio quality, and motion quality, reducing the oily artifact common in video generation. Users can now produce multi-minute content with consistent visual language, reducing the cost of splitting shots, repeated stitching, and transition processing.

2.  Feishu Product Team Merges Into Doubao and GTM Shifts to Volcano Engine

Feishu, previously a first-tier BU alongside Douyin, TikTok, and Volcano Engine, has had its product team merged with Doubao under Zhao Qi, while Feishu GTM merged with Volcano Engine into a creativity service platform led by Tan Dai.

The move follows industry consensus: Tencent moved QClaw alongside WorkBuddy on July 20, and Alibaba launched Qianwen Office on July 27 integrating three products on the Tongyi foundation bound to DingTalk. The integration makes Feishu product team effectively Doubao office scenario division, transferring ten years of office understanding into the Doubao system. The GTM consolidation carries greater strategic value: previously Feishu and Volcano Engine sold to the same enterprises through two independent systems with customer overlap and resource waste.

3.  Alibaba Releases Qwen3.8-Max Official Version

Alibaba has released the official Qwen3.8-Max, following the Kimi K3 wave. The model features 2.4 trillion parameters and a 1 million context window, with dramatically improved programming and office capabilities in the global first tier, matching or challenging GPT-5.6 Luna in some scenarios.

Open-source weights arrive within a week, continuing the Qwen tradition. As a multimodal model, it reads images, video, and PDFs, accessible through token plans, Qianwen Office, Qoder, and the Qianwen app. A long-run agent demonstration set a from-zero-to-one autonomous task: researching world-class annual report visual language, distilling reusable skills, and producing three fictional HTML annual report cases. The prompt required at least ten reports spanning US tech and consumer brands, European energy and industrial companies, Japanese or Nordic design enterprises, and Chinese internet, manufacturing, and consumer firms, covering both regulatory disclosure and brand narrative types.

4. Alibaba Launches 20+ Apps With 50+ Innovation Features on HarmonyOS

Alibaba has deployed over 50 HarmonyOS-native innovation features across 20-plus applications in the first half of 2026, marking a shift from adapting apps for compatibility to actively leveraging Huawei system capabilities for enhanced user experiences.

The deployment covers Amap, DingTalk, UC Browser, Taobao, Xianyu, Quark, Qianwen, Fliggy, Alibaba Cloud, Damai, 1688, Taobao Deals, Youku, Tmall Car Care, Fengniao Rider, and other applications spanning navigation, office, e-commerce, content, and local services. Amap leads the transportation category with HarmonyOS-specific live windows for cycling and walking navigation displayed on the lock screen and status bar, AR real-world walking navigation for foldable devices, and proactive commuting alerts through XIAOYI intelligent agent learning. For e-commerce, Damai AI Maibao agent enables movie ticket purchase through a single voice command to XIAOYI.

5. JD.Com Food Delivery Launches AI Smart Helmet

JD.com's delivery service has officially launched an AI smart helmet, which will be freely distributed to full-time riders first and gradually opened to all riders. This helmet is equipped with an AI voice assistant, built-in "Single King Route" navigation, and can automatically interpret order notes, reminding riders in advance before delivery.

The AI smart helmet addresses the three most painful scenarios for delivery riders. To tackle the difficulty of using a phone in the rain, the helmet supports full-process voice interaction– riders just need to speak to complete tasks like accepting orders and calling users, keeping their hands on the handlebars at all times. Rider Xiao Zhang from Beijing fears "labyrinth-like communities," where building numbers are hidden behind trees and entrances are deep inside, making a trip take several minutes of circling.
