Hi folks, we are back with our weekly edition of China’s Digital Digest, wherein we bring you weekly updates on China’s digital space. The report takes a quick glance at China’s complex and rapidly evolving social media landscape by providing updates on the latest happenings across the social media industry. Here are the major highlights of the report.

1. DeepSeek V4 Pro Goes Live

DeepSeek has pushed its V4 Pro model to general availability, listing the release as DeepSeek-V4-Pro-0813 on its pricing page. The flagship tier ships with a 1M-token context window and a 384K-token maximum output, defaulting to a thinking mode while still exposing a non-thinking endpoint for latency-sensitive calls.

For long codebases, large document corpora and multi-step agent runs, the combination of 1M input and 384K output means a single call can ingest and generate far more material than the previous generation. DeepSeek has also wired in the capabilities most agent developers now expect: structured JSON output, tool calls, the Responses API and Anthropic-API compatibility, plus beta support for conversation-prefix continuation and FIM completion, with FIM restricted to the non-thinking mode. Wire-level, the service exposes both OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible endpoints, so teams already running on either standard can switch without re-plumbing their stack.

2. Alibaba Sheds Gaming Business Lingxi to Double Down on AI and Ecommerce

Alibaba Group Holding has agreed to sell its wholly owned gaming business Lingxi Games to Trustar Capital as the Chinese technology giant pivots away from noncore sectors to prioritise e-commerce and artificial intelligence.

The sale of the unit comes as the Hangzhou-based group concentrates resources on its e-commerce, cloud computing and AI businesses. The deal follows the offloading of other noncore assets, including exits from hypermarket operator Sun Art Retail and department store chain Intime Retail. Industry peers are making similar moves. In March, rival ByteDance sold its Shanghai-based studio Moonton to Savvy Games Group – a gaming company backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund – in a deal valued at more than US$6 billion.

3. JD.Com’s Second-Quarter Profit Rises 15% As Food-Delivery Losses Narrow

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com saw its second-quarter net profit soar 15 percent year on year to 7.1 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion), beating market expectations despite a slight dip in overall revenue, as it contends with sluggish domestic consumer demand, fierce competition and a push into new business lines.

Net revenue for the three months ended June 30 fell 2.9 percent to 346.4 billion yuan, according to a company announcement. According to Sandy Xu Ran, CEO of JD.com. the second-quarter performance was driven by the core retail division’s profitability and narrowing losses in new initiatives such as food delivery – strengths the company planned to build on through the second half of the year. The company’s core retail segment – comprising electronics, home appliances and general merchandise – posted operating income of 13.5 billion yuan, down slightly from 13.9 billion yuan a year earlier.

4. Victoria Song Returns as OLAY Brand Ambassador After a Decade

OLAY has reunited with Chinese singer and actress Victoria Song (宋茜), naming her its latest brand ambassador nearly ten years after their first collaboration. The P&G-owned skincare brand first featured Song in its 2016 “You Are More Than You” campaign, when she was emerging as a multi-hyphenate entertainer after her K-pop career.

A decade later, OLAY is revisiting that partnership to highlight a different message: the value of continual renewal and evolution. The new campaign film brings the present-day Song face-to-face with her younger self, drawing a parallel between her career transformation and OLAY’s Super Red Jar cream, which has evolved from its first to sixth generation over the same period. Song also attended the product’s Shanghai launch, where she demonstrated the cream as part of a skincare routine, creating social-friendly content around the new product.

5. NikeSKIMS Looks to be Opening Its First Mainland China Store This Autumn

NikeSkims has erected hoarding at Shanghai’s HKRI Taikoo Hui ahead of a fall 2026 opening — its first standalone store in mainland China. Located next to Louis Vuitton’s landmark concept space, the outlet marks the joint venture’s entry into the country’s most competitive retail corridor.

The launch comes amid a wave of active-lifestyle expansion across top-tier Chinese cities: Alo Yoga, Vuori, and Adidas Originals Sport are increasing their presence, while Skims will open its first Asian flagship in Hong Kong in November. Lululemon long dominated premium athleisure through community-building, but 2026 has turned crowded, with rivals hosting runs and yoga sessions before stores even open.

China’s digital landscape changes so quickly that weekly summaries like this are genuinely useful. I follow social media trends for work, and even a few months can completely change which platforms, features, or content formats matter most. Mobile behavior is especially interesting because so much of the digital experience now happens through phones rather than desktops. I also tend to research devices and services carefully, sometimes checking pages like https://smart-cellular.pissedconsumer.com/review.html when comparing mobile-related options. What I like about digests like this is that they make a complicated market easier to follow without needing to track every update separately.
