Marketing Guru Video Series - Getting Started with Google Analytics

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

Google Analytics is one of the most commonly used digital analytics software. It is free and allows you to analyze the visitors on your website in detail, providing valuable insights that can help you to shape the success strategy of your business

Jeff Rajeck, Senior Trainer at ClickAcademy Asia, shares some tips on how to get started with Google Analytics.

What Google Analytics can tell you:

  • How many people are visiting your website

  • What pages they're visiting so you can give them more of what they want

  • Whether they did what you wanted them to do. Did they convert?

Access to Google Analytics:

If your business has an established website, you most likely already have Google Analytics set up and you'll have to speak to your website team or your agency that manages the website to get access.

Now if you're a new business or you've just set up your website, you will have to get a free Google Analytics account yourself. It can take a while to configure if you are not familiar with the platform but a good resource is How can I get started on Google Analytics (for the very first time)?, which will walk you through getting Google Analytics set up for your website.

Key reports to start with:

  1. All pages report: This report will tell you how many people have visited each page of your site over a certain duration and gives you a good idea of which parts of your website is important to your visitors.

  2. Channel report: This tells you where your visitors are coming from, whether they're coming from Google search, email, social media or any other channel you may have set up. You can then figure out which channels are the most effective for your business and focus on those channels to drive more traffic to your website.
