Trump said he and China’s president Xi Jinping had come to an agreement to allow TikTok to continue operating in the US, separating the social media platform from its Chinese owner ByteDance. Trump said the deal complies with a law that would have forced the shutdown of the app for American users had it not been divested and sold to a US owner. Under the plan, US investors will take over the majority of TikTok’s operations and take charge of a licensed copy of the app’s powerful recommendation algorithm.

3. TikTok Announces Updated Content Partnership with La Liga

TikTok is looking to expand its relationship with soccer fans, via an expanded partnership with Spain’s La Liga, which will see the league share exclusive content to the app.

Meta will also now default Canadian teens under the age of 16 into its advanced security mode, which can only be deactivated by a parent, as it has for U.S. teens since last September.

5. Snapchat Users Took a Trillion Selfies Last Year

Snapchat has recently announced a significant achievement, stating that its global community of over 930 million users has created more than a trillion selfies on its platform by 2024.

ree

Recently, Apple reported that iPhone users took more than 500 billion selfies last year, which means Snapchat users have taken more than double the amount and highlighting Snapchat’s popularity and long-lasting appeal as well as its massive engagement. The difference is in part due to Snapchat’s substantial Android users, who could be more active in selfie-sharing. However, the data proves Snapchat’s role as an important social network particularly for younger users.

It’s X is rolling out a new “Boost” button on your posts, which, when tapped, will give you a range of options to amplify your update. As per X’s own data, 80% of the platform’s users never post, or even engage in the app, so there’s only a small group of X users who would have any interest in this at all.

7. X’s Ad Revenue Shrunk in Q2 2025

According to recent data disclosed to private investors, X generated approximately $707 million in revenue for Q2 2025 (ending June 30), representing a year-over-year increase of over 20% but a quarter-over-quarter decline of 2.2%.

ree

However, this figure represents a dramatic 40% drop compared to the same period in 2022, when the company last reported as a public entity. 8. X Is Moving to a Customizable AI-Powered Algorithm

X is preparing to roll out a new AI-driven recommendation system designed to give users greater control over the content they see in their feeds. The shift marks a significant update to the platform’s algorithm, which currently relies on automated suggestions with limited user input.

ree

According to X head of product Nikita Bier, the company wants to move away from generic content feeds and toward more interest-driven experiences. The new system will allow users to directly influence their feeds through Grok, X’s AI assistant. Elon Musk confirmed that the platform’s recommendation engine will transition to being “purely AI by November,” with options to dynamically adjust timelines.

9. LinkedIn Updates Terms of Service To Expand AI and Ad Targeting Use
