Social Media Buzz Weekly: Roundup of Social Media Updates

Welcome to Social Media Buzz Weekly, your weekly bulletin of the latest social media updates. With the social media landscape evolving with each passing day, it can be challenging to keep a tab on the rapid developments. Well, not anymore, as we have taken it upon ourselves to keep you abreast of every happening in the social media space.
So, without any further ado, let’s look at some of the most significant developments from the last week in the world of social media.
1. TikTok Signs Multiyear NFL Deal
TikTok announced a new multi-year agreement with the NFL that will expand the football league’s presence on the platform and offer new engagement and interaction features for fans.

Through the updated partnership, TikTok will add new NFL game day hubs, powered by the platform’s GamePlan sports partnership offering, which lets sports leagues build their presence in the app. TikTok will also host more game highlights, archival moments and “year-round storytelling” from the league and individual teams. The app will also offer advertisers new opportunities to tap into NFL-related trends through its Pulse Premiere offering.
2. TikTok Adds Voice Notes and Image Carousels in Comments
TikTok is looking to drive more engagement in the comment sections of video clips with the addition of three new comment tools that will give viewers more ways to respond to content. TikTok has added voice comments, so viewers can leave audio responses to videos.

Viewers will be able to tap a microphone icon in the comment window to record a voice message in response to a clip. The comment will then be displayed with an audio file and a translated text version below it. TikTok said that voice messages can be up to 60 seconds long. TikTok is also adding polls in comments as another means to drive responses. Only the video creator will be able to add a poll, and each poll can include up to five response options. Comment Polls are now available to all creators. TikTok is also adding photo carousel comments and live photo replies, providing more ways to use still images in the app.
3. Snapchat Introduces Harry Potter-themed Activations
Snapchat has announced multiple Harry Potter-themed activations in the app as part of an expanded promotion for the new HBO series airing later this year.

First, Snapchat is rolling out 12 AR Lenses built around different elements of the story. These will provide users with a way to engage with Harry Potter-related concepts and promote the show in the app. Snapchat is also adding themed chat wallpapers and Bitmoji fashion items, so app users can dress their digital selves up in wizard robes and costumes. Moreover, Snapchat is hosting real-life activations to expand the promotion. Finally, Snapchat is offering custom Harry Potter-style app icons as another way to engage fans even before they open the app.
4. X Money Will Be The Only Payout Option for US Creators
X is looking to advance the use of its new X Money payments platform by forcing creators who are taking part in its Original Content Rewards and subscriptions programs to accept their payouts via X Money.

The platform is offering no alternative payment process– at least not to US creators. Non-U.S. participants in the Original Content Rewards program will continue to access their payments via Stripe. X said that the benefit of this is that creators will be able to access their payouts the moment they’re sent, rather than having to wait to reach a certain payout threshold before they can cash out. The decision means that anyone looking to get paid by X will need to verify their phone number in the app in order to qualify for an X Money account, while they’ll also have to be a paying X Premium subscriber.
