It’s no secret that humor can help your brand connect with your target audience, thereby, driving brand and purchase consideration. But what really matters is how effectively you use it. Guess what, these 5 following brands used it quite efficiently.
So, here are 5 brands that can instantly trigger laughter in even the most serious-looking fellows.
1. Doritos: Goat for Sale
What happens when a snack-loving goat buttheads a snack-loving pet owner? It results in a funny commercial like this one.
The ad features a man who purchases a goat that loves to munch on Doritos. While it all seems exciting initially, the man begins to worry when the goat simply doesn’t stop eating. To save the rest of his Doritos stock, he keeps all the Doritos packets in his room. But it seems like the goat didn’t like this gesture. Well, if you’ve got a pet, you better listen to it!
2. Volkswagen: Horsing Around
Have you ever been laughed at by horses? No? Well, trust me it sucks just as much as being laughed at by a group of young lads.
The commercial features a man driving his car while the horses on a ranch make fun of him and his “funny little car”. But all that laughter turns into awe-struck glances and whispers when a Volkswagen is parked next to the horses. It looks like they found out who the boss is!
3. Mercedes Benz: Sorry
If Volkswagen shut up a few horses, Mercedes Benz gave a shut-up call to death itself! The ad features a man driving his Mercedes Benz when he sees the god of death sitting beside himself, waiting amusingly for the man’s death. But as it turns out, the man applies his car’s brakes just in the nick of time to save himself.
The reason why I liked this ad was how well the ad highlighted the car’s solid brakes system while also integrating it into the commercial.
4. Snickers: Mr. Bean
You know you’re in for a heavy dose of laughter if you see a commercial that stars Mr. Bean aka Rowan Atkinson.
The commercial borrows the plot from one of its previous ads featuring Betty White and highlights how differently people tend to behave when they’re hungry except that this time they behaved like Mr. Bean. The ad is short and precise and Mr. Bean’s theatrics make it wholly worthwhile.
Honestly, I don’t understand why anybody would mind having Mr. Bean around them, that guy is hilarious!
5. DollarShaveClub.com – Our Blades Are F***ing Great
Oh damn, they are! Okay, okay, I was just kidding, don’t buy it just yet! But you’ve got to love this commercial for how straightforward it is. Not only does the ad highlight the product’s features (there weren’t too many, honestly) but also takes potshots at other fancy brands, one of which stars Roger Federer (you know who).
The reason why I loved this ad was how brutal and straightforward it is in its approach. From cracking jokes at Roger Federer and projecting itself as a loser at times (cutting the duct tape with a machete) to talking about employment in the most casual ways possible, this commercial does it all.
I don’t know if Alejandra is still working but I do know that this commercial isn’t good, it’s
f***ing great!
