5 Insanely Funny Commercials That Are Everyone’s Favorite
Humor! If there’s one thing that can get even an average product more customers than it actually deserves, it’s that- humor! As viewers, most of us love to find some value in the content that we see every day. However, adding value through a 15 or 30-second commercial isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. Therefore, laughter becomes the go-to element for most media companies to keep their audience engaged and entertained.
However, filming a humorous ad is easier said than done, which is why many commercials that are supposed to be funny don’t even manage to elicit a slight smile from the audience. Having said that, there’s no dearth of absolutely funny commercials out there that delivered a mix of value and laughter. And today, we’re again going to take a look at some of those amazingly funny commercials.
So, for today's #FunnyFridays, here we are with 5 funny commercials that can trigger gales of laughter. Let’s take a look at these.
1. Bud Light (2008)
Did you know that “American chicks” love men that have a foreign accent? Well, that’s what these bunch of guys seem to think. Unfortunately, they soon discover that this is far from the truth.
The ad features a group of non-Americans walking into a pub and trying to impress girls with their non-American accents. In the process, they come up with the most hilarious one-liners like “You have the thighs of a Sherpa!” and “You make sandwich, I am meat”. Towards the end, one of the guys is shown being successful at impressing one of the girls, but that has got more to do with the Bud Light beer instead of his accent.
Honestly, one look at these guys and you’d know that these fellows are going to have a hard time setting up a date for themselves, regardless of whichever country they walk into!
2. Doritos (2013)
What’s the first picture that comes to your mind when you hear the term ‘mermaid’? A beautiful, lovely woman that has the body of a fish from the waist down, right? Well, this Doritos ad will introduce you to their male counterpart!
This Doritos ad is ridiculously funny and shows mermaids having developed a taste for Doritos. Jealous by all the attention that his peers were getting from female mermaids, a man stuffs his mouth with Doritos so that he could borrow some of that ‘old mermaid love’, only to be kissed full on the lips by a ‘male mermaid’. Well, as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for!
3. Berlitz (2014)
Have you ever been through the horror of coming across someone who knows your language but you’re oblivious to that? This Berlitz commercial will help you live it.
The ad features a couple of girls, probably Chinese, talking with each other at the laundromat when a guy walks in and one of the girls starts doting on him instantly. Finally, she says something and regrets it instantly when she comes to know that the guy actually understood everything that she had been saying about him all along.
As they say, never be too sure of something!
4. Toyota (2018)
A Jew, a Christian priest, a practicing Muslim, and a Buddhist- all hopping into a Toyota to watch a Superbowl game. A major reason why this commercial is so awesome is because it is both funny and a lesson in communal harmony.
In today’s communally charged world where we are often told all sorts of things about other communities, this commercial comes across as a ray of positivity and reiterates the belief that “we are all one team”.
5. Rubicon (2018)
Imagine being chased by one of those extinct gigantic dinosaurs that are hell-bent upon turning you into its meal. What do you do? You hop into a Rubicon Jeep and speed off, obviously! But when you have something as powerful as a Rubicon, you don’t just speed off, you turn the table and get on the dinosaur’s trail.
As ridiculous as it sounds, this Rubicon commercial is actually fun to watch with Jeff Goldblum helping the audience relive the iconic 1993 movie Jurassic Park that consisted of some of the greatest chase sequences.
Well, we aren’t sure about whether or not the Rubicon can help you beat a dinosaur, but it can definitely help create a fun commercial.
Humor can be a great way of getting your point across to your audience while also evoking some laughter. However, creating a funny commercial is not as easy as it sounds. There’s a very fine line between funny and offensive and you have to know what the audience would find funny and what they would see as offensive.
We’ll be back next week with a few more funny commercials. Till then, stay tuned and take care fellas!
