5 IWD 2024 Adverts That Championed The Cause of Women's Empowerment

We didn’t see many mindblowing campaigns when we first covered the International Women’s Day 2024 ads this year almost two weeks ago. But when I scouted through YouTube later, I found that brands had unleashed all their creativity to win the hearts of their audiences. Most of these adverts revolved around the idea of women’s emancipation and their empowerment. Some even delved into the topic of how women have finally managed to break the glass ceiling to seize whatever opportunities came their way.



So, here we are today with 5 awesome International Women’s Day 2024 commercials that roared of women’s aspirations and their successes.


1. Skoda Singapore: Let’s Explore

Life isn’t easy for women but there are definitely fewer challenges that they have to face today than five hundred years ago. And who made that possible? Of course, women themselves!



Skoda released a simple 30-second video this Internal Women’s Day to pay tribute to the amazing fight put up by women through the years to secure their rights. From protesting for their voting rights to attaining equal pay, it’s amazing how far women have come today and equally saddening to know the situation of women until a few hundred years ago.


But don’t despair my friends, women are reclaiming everything that is theirs- get used to it!


2. Reliance Digital: A World Without Women

We often hear men condescending to women and belittling their achievements and contributions. But have you ever wondered what the world would have been like if women never existed? This 70-second advert by Reliance Digital will give you some idea.



The ad showcases a world without women and their contributions. We see men trying to get on with their lives without the services of everything that was created by women. So, everything from refrigerators and WiFi to clothing irons and the Internet is taken away, leaving men to fend for themselves. Thankfully, the nightmare soon ends and the guy seeing this dream wakes up to find his wife right beside himself. 


The ad ends with the message that a world without women would be without love, care, empathy, innovation, and technology. It couldn’t be more true!


3. Pomellato: Social Sentinels

Statistics reveal that almost one in every three women faces violence in some form- usually at the hands of a male partner or family member. And why do you think that happens? It’s because the people around them keep silent! And that’s the issue that the Italian fashion jeweler Pomellato sought to address through its International Women’s Day 2024 ad campaign.



The ad brings together several activists and celebrities who talk about why people need to act as social sentinels to help prevent violence against women. The campaign, which was launched in 2017, has been striving for gender equality, and inclusivity, and encouraging the power of sisterhood.


Violence against women has a ripple effect on everyone in society and therefore, it’s logical that each one of us takes on this issue!


4. UN Women: Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress

From the Middle East and Afghanistan to Myanmar and Ukraine, women pay the biggest price every time there’s a conflict. The need for peace has never been more dire and the United Nations knows this all too well.



So, this International Women’s Day, the United Nations released a 70-second spot that urged individuals to rally behind women and invest in them to accelerate progress. The ad encourages people to actively contribute to the ongoing pursuit of gender equality. Through this commercial, the United Nations underscores the significance of directing resources, support, and attention toward women for expediting positive advancements in different aspects of society.


The message is clear- help women progress, the society will follow! Because an educated and self-dependent woman can play a vital role in the transformation of the entire society into a progressive one.


5. Luminous: Women In Energy

While women make up 39% of the global workforce, they only account for 16% of the workforce in the energy sector. Leading home electrical specialist Luminous sought to address this issue and showcase its commitment to tackling this problem via its International Women’s Day 2024 ad.



The company released a 100-second spot this year that showed a boy talking about his mother. For a major part of the advert, we are led to believe that the woman is probably a homemaker, who’s carrying out her daily household chores. But halfway through the ad, we find out that the woman is actually a solar technician.


Luminous has been training women across India to become solar technicians to bridge the massive gender divide in the energy sector. While the women who are challenging stereotypes must be celebrated, such brands and their commitment to fostering gender equality also deserve a shout-out!


Wrapping Up

And that was a wrap of some of the best International Women’s Day 2024 ads. Women aren’t just challenging but also shattering stereotypes every day. They have come far from where they started but a lot still needs to be done. The day we stop seeing these ads and there’s no need to celebrate this day anymore, gender equality will have truly been achieved.
