Hi folks, we are back with our weekly edition of China’s Digital Digest, wherein we bring you weekly updates on China’s digital space. The report takes a quick glance at China’s complex and rapidly evolving social media landscape by providing updates on the latest happenings across the social media industry. Here are the major highlights of the report.

1. Trump Sued in Bid to Undo Approval of TikTok’s US Sale

Donald Trump and his attorney general have been sued by retail investors in two social media rivals of TikTok seeking to reverse the US president’s approval of a deal by the company’s Chinese owner ByteDance to form a majority American-owned joint venture.

The lawsuit, the‌ first legal challenge to the deal, argues that Trump’s approval last year violated requirements set out in a 2024 divestiture law. Two California residents who hold shares in Alphabet and Meta Platforms sued, backed by a group called the Public Integrity Project. The lawsuit, which also names US Attorney General Pam Bondi, aims to require a renegotiation of the deal that doesn’t put Trump administration allies in a position to censor political content on one of the world’s most popular media platforms.

2. TikTok Gets Green Light to Stay in Canada, Reversing Earlier Ban

Canada will allow TikTok to continue operating in the country, a complete reversal after the government had previously ordered the social media company to close its Canadian division for security reasons. In November 2024, under former prime minister Justin Trudeau, Canada ordered ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese owner, to wind down its Canadian subsidiary.

But in January, that order was set aside following a legal motion from the government – just days after Mark Carney became the first Canadian prime minister in more than eight years to visit China, where he announced a deal with President Xi Jinping to relax tariffs. TikTok Technology Canada will now be allowed to operate under new legally binding commitments to enhance its security, Canadian Industry Minister Melanie Joly said in a statement, saying the decision followed a fresh security review.

3. Tencent Begins Testing QClaw, Enabling One-Click Deployment of OpenClaw

Tencent has launched internal testing for QClaw, a one-click deployment package designed to simplify the use of its OpenClaw agent framework.

Rather than introducing a new agent framework, QClaw packages the existing OpenClaw system into a more user-friendly product, significantly lowering the barrier to deployment and usage. According to testing documentation, QClaw functions as a local one-click launcher. After downloading the package, users can deploy OpenClaw directly on their computers and quickly start an AI agent named “Lobster.” Users who already have OpenClaw installed can also connect and manage their existing systems through QClaw.

4. Tencent Cloud Expands Frankfurt Data Center Footprint

Tencent Cloud has announced plans to launch an additional availability zone in Frankfurt, Germany, further expanding its European cloud infrastructure.

The new zone will enter service in Q2 2026, bringing Tencent Cloud’s total number of availability zones in Frankfurt to three. The expansion aims to provide European customers with compliant, stable, and high-quality cloud and AI services. The Frankfurt expansion reflects Tencent Cloud’s continued push to strengthen its global infrastructure network.

5. Tencent Sets April Launch for ‘Honor of Kings: World’

Tencent has officially announced that its multiplayer adventure title Honor of Kings: World will launch in April. The game is now listed on Apple’s App Store, with the page indicating a scheduled release date of April 30.

The download size is approximately 3.5GB and requires iOS 12.0 or later. Honor of Kings: World has previously undergone multiple rounds of closed beta testing. The title is widely viewed by players as Tencent’s answer to Genshin Impact. Built on the established Honor of Kings IP, the game continues the franchise’s Eastern fantasy aesthetic while expanding into a large-scale open world environment rooted in Chinese cultural elements.

6. Alibaba Approves Qwen Lead Lin Junyang's Resignation

Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu has officially approved the resignation of Lin Junyang, head of the Qwen large model team, in an internal memo.

The announcement follows Lin's sudden departure declaration on social media just hours earlier, which sent shockwaves through the AI community. Multiple core Qwen researchers submitted resignations concurrently, including post-training research head Yu Bowen and code lead Hui Binyuan (who departed in January 2026 for Meta). Team morale was visibly shaken, with researchers posting "Qwen is nothing without its people" across social platforms.

7. JD.Com Posts Quarterly Loss Amid Costly Instant Delivery Battle

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com reported a 2.7 billion yuan (US$392 million) loss in the fourth quarter and a halving of annual profit amid an ongoing food delivery battle it ignited last year.

The fourth-quarter loss contrasted with a profit of 9.9 billion yuan a year earlier, marking the company’s first quarterly loss since the start of 2022. Profit for last year dropped nearly 53 percent to 19.6 billion yuan. However, by non-generally accepted accounting principles, which exclude one-off costs and non-cash items to highlight a company’s core operational performance, JD.com pulled in net income of 1.1 billion yuan for the fourth quarter, and 27 billion yuan for 2025.

I recently watched Animal and it was a very intense and emotional movie. The film explores a dark and complex relationship between a father and son while mixing powerful action with strong drama. Ranbir Kapoor delivers a filmy fly movie outstanding performance and brings a lot of depth to the character. The background music, cinematography, and gripping scenes make the movie engaging from start to finish. Some moments feel quite violent and heavy, but they add to the overall impact of the story.
