Welcome to Social Media Buzz Weekly, your weekly bulletin of the latest social media updates. With the social media landscape evolving with each passing day, it can be challenging to keep a tab on the rapid developments. Well, not anymore, as we have taken it upon ourselves to keep you abreast of every happening in the social media space.

So, without any further ado, let’s look at some of the most significant developments from the last week in the world of social media.

1. Meta Updates Dynamic Labels for Advantage+ Catalog Ads

Meta has introduced a small but potentially powerful tweak to its Advantage+ Catalog campaigns: dynamic overlays. Now, you can add “dynamic overlays” to your catalog ads, showing price, discounts, etc., presented as a sticker type element on the product image.

Meta says that Advantage+ advertisers can also choose to apply the most relevant overlays automatically, by selecting this option in the overlays element. It’s a handy addition, and with Meta’s AI-powered Advantage+ ads driving better response, it could help to drive more results from your promotions.

2. Instagram May Soon Enable Custom Colors for Notes

Instagram is currently testing out an optional process that would enable you to select a color and emoji for your Notes in the app.

This would provide another means to make your Notes in the app stand out, by customizing them with a different background color and emoji, that could better signify your Notes. It’s also added colored notes for certain themed celebrations, so functionally, this isn’t new. But it could add another way to enhance the Notes experience.

3. Threads Is Prompting Users to Cross-Post to Instagram

Meta is looking to get more people cross-posting, this time via a new prompt on Threads, which suggests that users share their Threads posts to IG Stories as well.

Some Threads users are being prodded to cross-post their Thread to IG Stories, as a means to get more eyes on their posts. You can already cross-post from Facebook to IG with every relative update, while Meta also continues to add more functionality to WhatsApp Status to enable full cross-posting to that option as well.

4. Snapchat Launches Updated Family Safety Hub

Snapchat has launched a redesigned Snapchat Family Safety Hub, which will provide easy access to Snap’s parental guidance tools and in-app management options, in order to help parents ensure their kids are safe in the app.

Snap’s updated Safety Hub includes various app guides and advice for parents, as well as links to informational videos, FAQs, official policy documents, and more. Developed in partnership with Common Sense Media, the updated Safety Hub is Snap’s latest effort to help reassure parents, and give them direct access to all the answers and tools they need to keep their kids safe, and aware of online dangers.

5. Snapchat Launches Affiliate Program To Drive Ad Sales

Snapchat is looking to boost its ad business, while also providing a new way for creators and publishers to earn money in the app, with the launch of its new “Snapchat Affiliate Program,” which will enable creators to earn rewards for each qualified advertiser that they refer to Snapchat.

Snapchat’s new affiliate program will pay you a commission for referring other brands to Snap ads. So Snap gets more ad business, and you get the opportunity to share your Snapchat expertise, in order to help others advertise in the app. The program will be powered by PartnerStack, which will track the relative ad spend and commission rates for referrals in the app.

6. Pinterest Officially Launches Tags on AI-Generated Content

Pinterest has officially launched its new AI-generated content labels, as part of an expanded effort to address the influx of AI generated content in the app.

This means that now Pinterest won’t be relying on self-reporting of AI usage, but will instead use detection tools to highlight likely AI generated or modified content, and will then include tags to indicate such. Pinterest recently added the below note to its official documentation, which specifies how exactly it will detect AI elements in images.

7. X Continues To Lose EU Users According To Latest DSA Report

X has lost 11 million users in the European Union over the past five months, dropping to 94.8 million active users, according to the latest DSA Report.

France experienced the largest loss, shedding over 2.7 million users, while Poland, Germany and Spain also saw significant declines. Before Elon Musk’s acquisition, X had more than 100 million users in Europe. Now, the decline highlights ongoing user dissatisfaction since his takeover. Musk admitted X’s value decreased from $44 billion to about $20 billion. Analysts predict continued user losses amid ongoing controversies and global protests against Tesla.

8. LinkedIn Will Enable Third Party Apps To Display Its ID Verification Markers

LinkedIn will now enable third-party platforms to display its ID verification markers, as a means to expand identification to more web elements.

Originally launched in 2023, LinkedIn’s free ID confirmation process uses third-party providers to confirm a users’ identity, which then enables those users to display a confirmation tick in the app. With this, all users are able to confirm that they are indeed who they say, as opposed to celebrity or paid verification checkmarks in other apps. LinkedIn’s been expanding the option to more regions, in partnership with local ID verification providers. And now, it’s also enabling partner platforms to display its ID verifications in their own apps.

9. LinkedIn Enables Users To Add Secondary Names for ID Verification

LinkedIn is looking to make it easier for people who use alternate names to get verified in the app, by enabling the use of your real name when listed as a secondary title, when going through the verification process.

LinkedIn’s voluntary ID verification option, which adds a checkmark to your profile indicating that you’ve confirmed your details via government-issued ID (via an approved third party), has already been taken up by around 80 million LinkedIn members, providing more assurance of your professional identity. But some people don’t actually use their real name online, and LinkedIn’s looking to cater to them as well, with some new provisos in the process. In order to verify your presence, you now can add your legal name as an additional moniker to be displayed alongside your LinkedIn name.
