Welcome to Social Media Buzz Weekly, your weekly bulletin of the latest social media updates. With the social media landscape evolving with each passing day, it can be challenging to keep a tab on the rapid developments. Well, not anymore, as we have taken it upon ourselves to keep you abreast of every happening in the social media space.

So, without any further ado, let’s look at some of the most significant developments from the last week in the world of social media.

1. Meta Updates Marketing API to Capitalize on Advantage+ Placements

Meta has announced a technical update to its Marketing API, which is designed to enable expansion of its Advantage+ promotions via third-party inputs.

ree

With the usage of its automated Advantage+ promotions rising, and driving better results for many brands, Meta is now moving to align its Marketing API around more effective Advantage+ use, by making Dynamic Media an automatic element for Advantage+ campaigns. The Dynamic Media setting enables Meta’s Advantage+ campaigns to optimize ad display based on the products available in its database. So if the system thinks that a specific user will respond better to different products from your catalog, it’ll highlight those, based on its assessment.

2. TikTok Launches Campaign To Highlight Music Discovery

TikTok is looking to further reinforce its status as the top music discovery app via a new ad campaign that seeks to showcase how TikTok helps music fans find their next favorites.

ree

The “See Where Music Takes You” campaign uses music from viral sensation Ravyn Lenae, and demonstrates how the app can help connect music fans around their shared interest. A recent report showed that 84% of the songs that reached the Billboard Top 200 list in 2024 went viral on TikTok first, while U.S. TikTok users are 74% more likely to discover and share new music on social and short-form video platforms than the average short-form video user.

3. TikTok Adds Audio Messaging, Audio and Video Attachments for DMs

TikTok has added some new DM features, including the capacity to send minute-long voice notes, as well as expanded image and video sharing, both for one-on-one messaging and group chats.

ree

First off, on audio messages. Now, TikTok users have the option to create minute-long audio clips from their composer options, by holding down on the microphone icon alongside the text box. TikTok is also giving users the option to send up to nine images or videos as attachments to your DMs, either by selecting them from your camera roll, or capturing them with the TikTok camera. TikTok has also added a key safety feature, with users unable to send an image or video as their initial message request.

4. Instagram Adds College Class Listings on Student Profiles

Following on from TikTok adding a new “Campus Verification” option to help college students connect in the app, Instagram is now adding the same thing, providing a means for students to showcase their college or university via their IG presence.

ree

Instagram’s partnering with student verification platform UNiDAYS in order to enable students to enter their college or university email address, which will then confirm their student status (note: TikTok is also using the same process). And if it all checks out, then students will be able to display their college or uni class on their Instagram profile.

5. Instagram Tests Picture-In-Picture Viewing for Reels

Instagram has moved to live testing of its new PiP option, which will enable users to continue watching Reels outside the app.

ree

Instagram is prompting some users to try out the new picture-in-picture option, while there’s also a new toggle for PiP in the playback settings. To be clear, this is PiP as it relates to video playback, not creation. There are ways to create PiP type videos within IG, but this is a functional option for viewing content, not creating it.

6. Instagram Adds More DM Management Options

Instagram is rolling out some more DM updates, as it continues to focus on building out its messaging features, in line with usage shifts.

ree

Instagram is adding new filters to your inbox, so you can easily sort your messages based on variable parameters. You will now be able to sort your DMs by story replies, unread, unanswered, followers, and verified users. You’ll also be able to add or remove any filter (other than “Requests”), while you’ll also be able to customize your shortcuts, by rearranging the order of the pills at the top of your inbox, giving you even more ways to manage your Instagram DMs.

7. Snapchat Launches Improved App Promotion Options

As part of what Snap is calling its “App Power Pack,” Snapchat is rolling out a refreshed app ad offerings, which are designed for both SKAN (privacy safe measurement of app installs on iOS) and non-SKAN-enabled campaigns.

ree

Snap is launching Sponsored Snaps for app advertisers, which will enable app promotions within the Snap inbox. Snapchat first announced Sponsored Snaps last September, which was the first time that Snap had allowed promotions within the Snap inbox. Snapchat is also rolling out improved target cost bidding for app campaigns.

8. Pinterest Adds New Elements to Its Academy Education Platform

Pinterest has added a new certification to its Pinterest Academy education platform, while it’s also added a new badge type to help showcase your Pin marketing knowledge.

ree

First off, Pinterest is launching a new “Media Planner” certification. The course comprises study notes and an exam, which is designed to demonstrate your understanding of how to use the various Pin tools at your disposal to effectively promote a business. Pinterest also offers three other certification courses in “Advertising Essentials”, “Media Buyer Certification” and “Performance Essentials,” each of which enables you to earn official credentials that you can use to showcase your knowledge.

9. LinkedIn Continues To Expand Its Presence in EU

LinkedIn saw a 14% rise in EU users in the first half of 2025, while it’s also seen steady increases in user reports of misinformation and hate speech, as more people come to engage on the platform.

ree

That’s according to LinkedIn’s latest EU DSA disclosure report, which outlines all of its moderation and enforcement efforts, as well as total users in the EU region. In the first half of 2025, LinkedIn reports that it had 54.7m logged in monthly active European users, as well as 213m logged out visits. Since March 2024, LinkedIn has seen the biggest relative audience increases, based on active user counts, in Slovenia (+100%), Lithuania (+50%) and Czechia (+33%), while in its biggest EU user markets, it’s seen an average of 10% MAU growth, using its logged in user stats.
