Welcome to Social Media Buzz Weekly, your weekly bulletin of the latest social media updates. With the social media landscape evolving with each passing day, it can be challenging to keep a tab on the rapid developments. Well, not anymore, as we have taken it upon ourselves to keep you abreast of every happening in the social media space.

So, without any further ado, let’s look at some of the most significant developments from the last week in the world of social media.

1. Meta Updates Login with Facebook

Meta is improving login with Facebook, which lets users access other apps using their Facebook login information. First, Meta is rolling out a one-tap sign-on for Android and Web. A one-tap prompt will appear for users who are already signed in with their Facebook credentials on their device, cutting the friction out of returning logins.

Meta also launched improvements for its Limited Login flow, in order to reduce re-logins for users. In addition, the company updated its iOS fast app switch process. That should ensure the app-entered credentials and data will be used to log in. It’s designed to save users from having to re-access Facebook by signing in on the web and then confirming that log-in in the app. That should ensure the app-entered credentials and data will be used to log in. 2. Meta Settles Landmark Lawsuit for $18B

Meta has agreed to pay more than $18 billion to stop what could have been an increasingly damaging trial over social media harms, while the company has also agreed to implement new restrictions on teen social media use, in order to settle the case brought by 29 U.S. attorneys general.

At the same time, Meta has tried to deflect negative focus by putting the spotlight onto TikTok and YouTube instead, by calling on both platforms to follow its lead in implementing new measures to limit teen harm. The landmark case alleged that Meta intentionally designed addictive systems, despite knowing that those systems posed risks. And while the problems here applied to all users, a key focus of the trial was teenagers and how Instagram and Facebook impacted them. Meta could have faced more than $1 trillion in combined damage claims from users alleged harm from its apps, had it been found liable. Instead, the company made the surprise move to settle a trial that had been expected to run for weeks, and which could have revealed more damaging insights about the company’s operations.

3. Instagram Launches First Draft for Reels

Instagram has added a simple way to create compelling Reels from existing video clips, with a new option, called First Draft, that will generate a first attempt at a Reel based on user inputs.

First Draft will put together an engaging Reel based on multiple video clips, by picking out the best parts of each clip and aligning them into a single video. Creators can then edit and customize their draft as they see fit, making it easier to get started on their Reels project. Instagram said this will simplify the creation flow by including all of its key creation tools in one place. Users will be able to access First Draft either in the Reels gallery or in the Instagram camera.

4. Meta Tests Auto-DM Response for Instagram Ad Comments

Meta is trying out a new ad option that will auto-generate a DM message to any user who posts a selected keyword, or keywords, in a post comment on Instagram. Some Meta advertisers can now access a new Reply to Keywords option in their ad setup tools.

Advertisers can choose up to five keywords to include, with each keyword triggering an auto-DM when posted in a comment on a promoted post. Advertisers can then create an auto-DM that will be sent to ad viewers who post these keywords, creating a lead nurturing process based on simple keyword parameters. Conceptually, this could be an easy way to facilitate DM follow-up, with advertisers able to include a note such as, “comment WINNING for more info.” Instagram’s ad tools would then automatically respond, reducing manual response work.

5. Instagram Launches Connected TV Promotion

Instagram has launched a new promotion for its updated connected TV app, which features several creators showcasing the engaging, communal experience of viewing Instagram content on the TV set.

This new Instagram promotion highlights a range of use cases for the platform’s connected TV app, including watching Reels with friends, following along with fitness content in the living room and sharing recipe and travel content. The promotion is headed by creators Ameya Okomoto, Vikram Thanigaivelan and Carson Gillaspia, who each share a different use case for the IG TV app. Instagram launched its revamped connected TV app for Amazon Fire devices in December. The platform has since expanded its CTV viewing option to Google TV and Samsung Smart TVs. Now it’s pushing to raise awareness of the option and lean into emerging viewing trends.

6. Instagram Growth Continues to Outpace Facebook in EU

Meta released its latest EU DSA reporting numbers, which showed that Instagram grew at a much faster rate than Facebook in the first half of 2026, in terms of active users. Under the EU Digital Services Act, all large online platforms are required to share biannual reports on user counts, as well as content moderation efforts.

Meta’s latest reports showed that in the first half of 2026, Instagram had 297 million active users in the EU, versus Facebook’s 264 million actives. Facebook usage in the EU has been relatively flat for some time, and even declined in some previous reporting periods. Instagram, however, has continued to steadily rise, and is on track to surpass 300 million users in the region sometime next year. The data suggests that for brands that want to maximize reach and resonance in the EU, Instagram is more popular, and continues to gain popularity, though both platforms have significant reach in the region. However, Facebook has lost some of its relevance in the EU, which could be indicative of a broader usage shift.

7. Instagram Updates Tags for AI Profiles

Instagram is revising its artificial intelligence transparency labels for accounts to better align with user expectations around AI disclosures. The change is designed to ensure that people know when they’re engaging with non-human entities in the app.

In order to address potential confusion, Instagram is renaming its “AI creator” account labels, which were added in May, to “AI generated profile” labels instead. The update will also include a description noting that the images posted by the account may feature AI-generated characters. That will make it easier for IG users to see whether a profile is run by a human, or is just posting AI-generated content. In other words, Instagram wants to ensure that fewer people are being duped by AI-generated characters in the app. In addition, Instagram said that it will limit the reach of profiles that feature an AI-generated person but do not add this label.

8. Snapchat Expands Unified Attribution to All Advertisers

Snapchat has announced an expansion of its Unified Attribution approach for app marketers, which will enable more advertisers to combine Snap Ads performance insights with data from their chosen mobile measurement partner. The change is designed to let brands share more perspective on ad performance.

Unified Attribution merges Snapchat platform metrics and MMP cross-channel performance metrics into a single unified view and helps marketers better understand relative ad performance in the app. Snapchat launched Unified Attribution in May with a selection of data integration partners and options. This expansion includes users of AppsFlyer and Adjust, and all advertisers globally will now be able to access these options.

9. X Revives Twitter’s Lead Gen Ads

X announced an updated variation of Twitter’s lead gen ads, which feature a prominent call-to-action button along the bottom of the promoted post, in order to drive direct response in the app.

X’s lead gen ads will include a colored CTA on the promoted post, with the color of the bar dictated by the dominant color of the main image or video. That will help to guide user action in the feed and offer a more standout action point for the post. The format is almost a direct replica of Twitter’s old lead gen ads option, which the platform retired in 2016. X said that after a user’s first lead gen submission, subsequent forms will be pre-populated “to cut the drop-off that typically comes with redirects, external landing pages and retyping forms.”

10. X Launches NFL Gametime Display

X has introduced NFL Gametime activation designed to provide a centralized score tracking and discussion space for each game, and drive more community engagement during the upcoming season.

X’s NFL Gametime display will include a real-time overview of key plays, alongside related posts about the game. The display will also include separate feeds for stats, play-by-play descriptions and general game chat, in variance to the main top posts feed. X has also launched an NFL Hub feed that fans can pin to their feed tabs as an alternative stream of NFL-related posts. X’s NFL Portal, which launched in 2024, also had game feeds, stats and community discussions, making it easier to follow along with game-related chatter in the app. This updated format is a slight tweak on the design, but it’s the same approach, though X, as it usually does, is touting it as a revolution in engagement.
