Hey everyone, welcome back to another #FunnyFridays edition. World Environment Day is observed every year on June 5 to encourage awareness and action for environmental protection and conservation. And as much as I wanted to do a blog on the same yesterday, some of the commercials that I’ll be covering in this blog are way too funny to be skipped.

So, here are 5 funny World Environment Day commercials that will not only make you laugh out loud but also think green. Let’s dive in!
1. Zomato: Delivering to Planet Earth
The growing calls for climate action have left almost no brand untouched with their customers demanding them to adopt more environment-friendly ways in their day-to-day operations. The Indian multinational restaurant aggregator and food delivery company Zomato launched this funny yet impactful advert last year to showcase how it has been contributing to environmental protection through its electric vehicles for food delivery.
The ad follows a Zomato delivery boy who is seen trying a range of ideas for food delivery. From adopting some of the most conventional means of transportation like using a camel and pigeon to trying more ‘advanced’ mechanisms like strollers and broomsticks, the poor guy tries everything- albeit without much success.
Thankfully, Zomato’s electric vehicles come in handy, propelling the company to commit to 100% food deliveries through electric vehicles at 0% pollution. Now, that’s what real innovation looks like!
2. SMART Superstore: Water
If you keep the tap running while brushing or doing other household chores, this ad is for you.
This hilarious 50-second spot shows a guy brushing his teeth while he keeps the tap running only for the tap water to lament at this unnecessary loss in the most hilariously possible way. From taking potshots at the guy for being fixated only on his pearly white teeth to proclaiming that real smartness lies in saving water, tap water does way more than its bit to address the issue of water wastage.
Well, if you continue to waste water even after watching this advert, the world is truly doomed!
3. UN Environment Programme: It's Not Me, It's You.
Unless you have been living under a rock with zero interaction with the outside world, you must have heard this phrase- it’s not me, it’s you. That’s characteristic of a relationship gone bad.
This United Nations advert features a woman named Sandra, who’s clearly disenchanted by her relationship, not with a person but with plastic. And guess what, it’s not Sandra but the plastic. Sandra realizes she has been in a toxic relationship for too long and decides it's time for a break-up. What's more, she has found a new love. The funny 2-minute spot shows Sandra expressing how suffocated she feels in the relationship.
However, 10 months later, despite being happy in her new relationship, Sandra continues to run into her ex every now and then. But no worries, her family and her new love are there to help her get over her previous toxic relationship. What about you?
4. Rally for Rivers
They say it’s not too bad if a good cause requires you to bend the rules a bit, especially if that cause is as noble as saving water.
This funny 70-second spot follows a kid who steals the mobile phones of unsuspecting owners until he gets caught one day. As it turns out, the thefts have a larger purpose. What’s more, he even returns everyone’s phones after the job is done🥹
Dear Nobel Committee, you need to add more categories for Nobel prizes because this boy’s endeavors surely deserve an award!
5. SMART Superstore: Bottle
Reliance-owned retail chain SMART Superstore has developed a knack for dishing out impactful environment-oriented adverts that also pack the humor punch.
If the previous advert showed the monologue from the tap water, this 40-second spot does the same with a plastic bottle that’s begging its latest owner to at least dump it into a dustbin instead of leaving it lying around. Also, it laments the rather self-centered attitude of people who just use and throw it after they have sipped the last drop of water from it.
What can one say? Its complaints are indeed genuine!
Wrapping Up
And that’s a wrap of another #FunnyFridays segment. World Environment Day is a serious topic, however, a bit of creativity can surely help you create a fun and engaging advert around it. As long as you are clear about the message that you wish to spread through your ad, the spot is going to be just fine!
We’ll be back with more amazing ad campaigns. Till then, stay tuned!
