Welcome to Social Media Buzz Weekly, your weekly bulletin of the latest social media updates. With the social media landscape evolving with each passing day, it can be challenging to keep a tab on the rapid developments. Well, not anymore, as we have taken it upon ourselves to keep you abreast of every happening in the social media space.
So, without any further ado, let’s look at some of the most significant developments from the last week in the world of social media.
1. Meta Allowed Ads Promoting Child Sexual Abuse in India
Meta reportedly allowed ads for child sexual abuse material to be displayed to users in India, and local authorities have called on the social media giant to explain how its ad checking systems failed to detect these illegal promotions before they went live. As reported by BBC, Meta apparently let several variations of promotions for child abuse material show up in its apps in recent weeks.

BBC said that it reported the offending promotions to Meta, and was initially told that the ads did not violate its guidelines. Meta removed the promotions shortly thereafter. The BBC report comes as Meta continues to push ahead with plans to replace most of its human moderation staff with artificial intelligence agents. These automated systems are empowered to assess and take action against potentially violating content across its platforms.
2. Facebook Tests View Count Display for Posts
Facebook may become the latest Meta app to display up-front post view counts, with some users being alerted to a new post view count displayed on their posts. Facebook is displaying post view counts on the main post display, although only the creator is able to view this number.

Meta has been making a bigger push on views over other data points, and offering up views as the primary metric to ensure that content creators are focused on the right elements. Traditionally, social media creators have used likes and follower counts to track post performance. But Meta has been telling creators for years now that the paradigm has changed, and these are no longer the best indicators of popularity or engagement.
3. TikTok Launches Discover America Tour
TikTok has announced a six-city U.S. tour to mark America’s 250th birthday. The platform is taking its promotional roadshow across the nation in order to help creators and businesses make best use of its app.

TikTok said that 8.5 million U.S. businesses use the app to connect with consumers and grow their brand alongside the many creators who have now made the app their focus. TikTok’s U.S. tour will include collaborations with local creators and entrepreneurs, who will share insights into building a presence in the app. People will be able to attend the TikTok events in person, or follow along on the app to learn from the featured creators on the Discover America website. The site also includes a range of insights into the TikTok activity of people in each featured city.
4. Edits App Gets Auto-Translated Bilingual Captions
Meta has introduced new features for Edits, its standalone video creation and editing app, adding tools aimed at expanding language support and improving editing options.

The update introduces bilingual captions, which automatically translate captions into a second language. The feature is available in English, Indonesian, Russian, Portuguese, Gujarati, Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Bengali, German, Italian, Thai, French, Japanese and Kannada. The app also now supports overlays in templates, allowing creators to build more detailed editing templates. Another new feature lets users lock specific video clips while editing to prevent accidental changes. In addition, the app has got a collection of summer-themed sound effects that creators can use in their videos.
5. X Rolls Out Updated Video Editor, Including Green Screen Recording
X launched a new video editor and recorder UI in the iOS version of its app. The updated editor includes a range of new additions, such as multi-language captions and green screen recording.

X’s updated video capture UI’s new features are integrated into an easy-to-use overlay that will provide more options for posting videos to the app. Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, said that adding new options to the updated player has been a particular focus. X has been experimenting with ways to make video more of a focal point in the app over the past couple of years. That has included a test of a video tab in the lower function bar and a range of deals on original video content.
6. SpaceX Rebrands as SpaceXAI
Elon Musk’s SpaceX has launched its official rebranding following its merger with xAI, the parent company of social media platform X. The new entity is called SpaceXAI.

SpaceXAI, which recently launched its initial public offering, integrated xAI in February as Musk sought to consolidate several of his businesses. The X app merged with xAI in March 2025. A name like this could actually be required in some cases, because many people still refer to X as Twitter, and are unclear regarding the various business merger processes that have altered the official X corporate structure. But essentially, X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is a division of SpaceX. X drives the data intake for xAI, and xAI provides artificial intelligence tools to SpaceX.
7. India Orders WhatsApp to Halt Username Feature Over Anonymity Concerns
India has asked WhatsApp to justify the implementation of a planned feature covering usernames and to freeze the roll-out in its biggest market, escalating a crackdown on messaging anonymity that began with Telegram, according to a government letter.

The move comes as authorities in India grapple with a spike in cybercrime, with scammers exploiting low digital safety awareness among millions of internet users. Meta’s WhatsApp had earlier said that it had begun a phased global roll-out, including in India, of the feature, which lets users reserve a unique username and eventually message others without sharing their phone numbers. The intervention is an escalation of India’s policing of global tech platforms, coming weeks after it temporarily blocked Telegram and following years of run-ins with Elon Musk’s X over content-takedown orders.
