5 Funny LGBTQ Related Commercials That Will Crack You Up

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

And we’re back with yet another #FunnyFridays segment. Yesterday, we covered some of the most emotional commercials based on the LGBTQ community. But just like everyone else, gay people also have multiple shades of life- some emotional and some hilarious at the very core.

So, in today’s #FunnyFridays segment, we are going to share with you some of the funniest gay commercials that we have seen in recent years. Please note that none of the ads are meant to be disrespectful toward the gay community and should only be taken as jokes. Now with that disclaimer, let’s get started with it.

1. Starbucks: Coffee Frenemies

This hilarious ad by Starbucks featured legendary Drag Race queens Adore Delano and Bianca Del Rio and showed them getting involved in a funny banter.

The ad begins with Adore Delano impatiently waiting in a Starbucks queue and cutting through the line to get ahead. However, Bianca Del Rio is clearly in no mood to let Adore have her way. But just when you thought that the two Drag Race queens would fight it out amongst themselves, the Starbucks executive hands over coffee to both of them, thereby putting an end to their banter.

Can we have a sequel, please?

2. Absolut Cut: Cut The Crap

Vodka brand Absolut Cut released an advert that showed a mother and her gay son throwing unabated shit at each other, albeit without really saying any of those nasty things!

The ad showcases the mother-son duo engaging in a conversation and asking about each other’s lives, which seems totally innocuous. But underneath their words lies the infinite pool of laughter. The mother knows that her son is gay and the son knows that she is having sex with her chiropractor! Now that warrants some of the potshots that they are seen taking at each other in this end, doesn’t it?

3. Coke: Sibling Rivalry

Siblings fighting for their parents’ love and attention, property, or some other materialistic thing- we’ve seen it all. We have even seen brothers competing for a woman or sisters fighting over a guy. But how often do you see a brother and his sister chasing the same love interest?

This hilarious Coke commercial showcases a brother and his sister competing for the affection of their handsome gardener by racing to deliver him a bottle of Coke. But as fate would have it, it’s their mother who wins the contest.

An entire family going crazy over someone; damn that gardener has got to have something!

4. Virgin Holidays: What If…?

Gay couples are often a subject of ridicule every time they go on a holiday. But what if the tables were turned and straight couples were meted out the same treatment?

This insanely funny ad by Virgin Holidays tries to give straight couples a dose of their own medicine. From being advised to “get a room” to being stopped from showering affection on each other in public, the heterosexual couple in the ad goes through everything that gay couples usually face on their holidays.

Conveying messages through laughter- could it get any better than this?

5. Hyundai: Secret Partner

What’s more embarrassing- a middle-aged woman with a young male partner or an elderly man with a young male partner? None! But the established narrative around what a man-woman relationship must be like hardly leaves any space for other sexual orientations to thrive. But not if you have a Hyundai car!

The ad shows a middle-aged woman lowering her male partner’s seat to prevent him from being seen by an elderly man. But unbeknownst to the woman, the old man is himself hiding his young male partner in his car.

Life’s fun and easy in a Hyundai, isn’t it?

Wrapping Up

And that was a wrap of another #FunnyFriday segment where we brought to you some of the funniest gay commercials from recent years. Although homosexuality is still a controversial subject in many parts of the world, the ads covered in this blog show that if done right, you can generate laughter while attaining your marketing goals at the same time.

We’ll be back with more awesome ads next week. Until then, stay tuned!
